The Guild underwrites the in-school programs for schools in Garland County so the programs are FREE to the schools.

Orchestra and You (2nd Grade)

ORCHESTRA AND YOU is a free program for students in Grade 2. This program introduces students to all the instruments of the orchestra through a “hands on” approach using colorful, acrylic, one dimensional, models while recorded, as well artist musicians demonstrate instruments sounds. Some of the students will act as performers, while others learn skills of being attentive audience members. Each student receives a workbook that features of the instruments, including puzzles and drawing.

String Quartets (3rd – 5th Grade)

The Hot Springs/Hot Springs Village Symphony Guild works with the Arkansas Symphony in bringing artist musicians from the symphony into the elementary schools of the Hot Springs and surrounding areas. The Rockefeller and Quapaw String Quartets from the ASO provide a variety of programs or “demos” for students enabling them to experience the joy and excitement of “live” performance.

 

Musical presentations change each year and our structured to work across the curriculum in relating musical experience to other educational goals. These programs are directed to the 3rd through 5th grade students. Click on the year to see the program offerings.

 

 

 

2011 – 2012

Meet the String Family

Through demonstration and hands-on activity, the Quapaw Quartet will introduce students to the string family. The students will have a chance to watch the quartet play and discuss their instruments, then try their own hands on a violin, a viola or a cello with the musicians!

Start a journey across America with the Quapaw Quartet as they play music from Arkansas and beyond! What images come to mind when you think of America? Cowboys? Or big cities? Or a rodeo? See how American music reflects different facets of American culture.


This Is Your Brain on Music

How does music make you feel? See and draw colors and shapes, feel how music can change your heartbeat, and interpret the music through motions. This interactive demo from the Rockefeller Quartet asks students to act out and think about the physical and emotional effects different types of music have on them.

Music at the Movies

The Rockefeller Quartet brings the movies to life! Think of your favorite scene from your favorite movie. Can you remember the music? Movie music works with what you see onscreen to make movies more exciting, relevant and enjoyable. Students work with the quartet to figure out which music fits with what scenes.
